On the positions of attention

I think the coolest thing that one could ever do is to lead a drilling of the positions of attention. Y'all really must try it sometime. I hope everyone is just exhilarated about our pre-camp rehearsals tomorrow. If anyone feels like getting up early, I'm gonna be up at the band hall around 4:30 if anyone wants to come keep me company...

I let my asian loose....but I think that it is safely subsided now after two boxes of poky, parading in neko ears, listening to chun chun yu dong on repeat for about half an hour, and two Miyazaki films and Memoirs of a Geisha....I'm better now

Fish, Fish Everywhere, and not a bite to eat

So, the first day of New Student Orientation went well enough not to be discouraging. I think we have a group that can catch on quickly. However, we still have no music, stands tunes, or drill, and I don't have a cape that fits (I know the last one's what is concerning everyone). It feels like this marching season is gonna be tough to get off the ground, but I know it'll be fine once we get going.

"London Bridge"

Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit
When I come to the clubs, step aside
Pop the seeds, don't be hating me in the line
V.I.P because you know I gotta shine
I'm Fergie Ferg
Give me love you long time

All my girls get down on the floor
Back to back drop it down real low
I'm such a lady but I'm dancing like a ho
Because you know what, I don't give a fuck
So here we go!

[Chorus (x2)]
How come every time you come around
My London London Bridge want to go down
Like London London London want to go down
Like London London London be going down like

Drinks start pouring
And my speech start slurrin'
Everybody start looking real good

The Grey Goose got the girl feeling loose
Now I wishing that I didn't wear these shoes
It's like everytime I get up on the dude
Papparazzi put my business in the news
And I'm gonna get up out my face (oh, shit)
Before I turn around and spray your ass with mace (oh, shit)
My lips make you want to have a taste (oh, shit)
You got that? I got the bass

[Chorus x2]

Ice is back with my brand new invention

The longer I know my parents, the more it seems like we've never met, but that's beside the point. The point is that Texas Tech Band and Orchestra Camp rocks not only my socks off, but the socks of anyone in Texas and part of New Mexico. I won't bore with an excessively long post, but here goes the week:

Monday
  • met people from The Colony that were at the same Pirates 2 premier as us (they were the ones who stood up to cheer for the guy dressed up in the contest)
  • 10 arm circles
    common time pattern
  • Met Christopher M. Anderson-director of the Goin' Band from Raiderland and associate director of bands at TTU. He may just be the coolest person I have ever met (no joke), and on top of that, he gave every DM a free DVD of highlights from the 2005 marching season.
  • Met Phil and Aaron (last year's and this year's drum majors for band II respectively) and Scott (the director at Frenship)
  • ate every meal alone
  • didn't go to dance
  • thunderstorm

Tuesday
  • 20 arm circles
  • 3,4 pattern
  • met drum major team from Steele
  • ate breakfast and dinner alone
  • saw talent show!
  • thunderstorm

Wednesday
  • 30 arm circles
  • 2, 4 and 6, 8 pattern
  • met drum major team from Poteet, North Garland, Post, Sweetwater, Idalou, Argyle, and Abiliene-Wylie (including the only guy in all day color guard class)
  • got to eat dinner with some people
  • saw faculty fun band (they played rolling thunder)
  • caught in dust storm, so I went to dance

Thursday

  • 40 arm circles
  • saw awesome twirlers at assembly
  • Learned names: Jose, Brooke, Thi "Tea Bag", Ryan, Matt, and Zach
  • learn to conduct a routine and salute
  • ate breakfast, luch, and dinner with awesome people (stayed way too long at dinner)
  • loved camp

Friday

  • 50 arm circles
  • saw cool flag corps at assembly
  • conducted my evaluation
  • couldn't believe how awesome band camp had become, and was relieved to find awesome people
  • watched Phil and Aaron lose the the high school drum majors at volleyball
  • went to the symphony orchestra concert with people from Abiliene-Wiley

Saturday

  • hung out with my awesome drum majors
  • stayed way too long at lunch
  • put on my new Texas Tech shirt
  • flew back to Love Field with the drum majors from DFW (the descent into LUV was horrible and I thought I was going to die)
  • went to dinner with my Parris and my family at Half Shells in Legacy Town center. While waiting for a table we went into Merge, the coolest store that sells expensive jeans, in which the sales people thought I went to Texas Tech.

In closing, nothing even comes close to the experience of this camp. Everyone is so excited to be at TTU, and it almost makes you want to go there. While I don't plan on going to TTU, the goin' band will always hold a special place for me (especially as long as Mr. Anderson is directing)

Hey, I have a strange, vague attraction to Lubbock. I don't know why, but I do. Even though it smells like fish.

He Can Be My Superman Anytime

So, tonight I saw the new superman movie, and I must say that it was better than the old ones. Brandon Routh (i think) was Christopher Reeve. Throughout the movie, there were moments that seemed as though it wasn't a new superman at all. Everything worked out beautifully in the end, and it was just cheesy enough to remind you that it was a comic book. However, whoever decided to take away Kate Bosworth's bangs made a bad choice becasue it made her forehead seem larger than her entire body and wasn't a good look.

Do you have some hideous skirt festival that you have to attend?

I give "The Devil Wears Prada" 317.5 out of 318 rhinestones for quality. I thought the end could've been a little more uplifting, but I loved it anyhow. The only thing that was bad was the fact that people avoided me and Keyes because somebody soaked me with gasoline earlier, and the smell was killing small animals as we passed by. At least the mall is an accepting place, and, after all, the sales people left us alone.
