Holy Barbara Allen!!

As all in my weird little circle of friends at Celina High School are aware, its One Act Play season again. I was looking into some history of our favorite play from last year, Dark of the Moon, when I found some very interesting info. Check it out, click the title.

An excerpt: This drama of witchcraft and religion hit Broadway in 1945, eight years before Arthur Miller's "The Crucible." & The New York Times described "Dark of the Moon" as, "Gusto, vitality, humor, and a natural and easygoing way of introducing folk songs that add up to an engaging evening of theatre." The New York World-Telegram said, "Weird, fascinating theatrical entertainment. Daringly experimental, an enriching and pleasurable experience."I find it oddly coincidental that the play we loved last year but could never perform was proceeded on Broadway by the play we will most likely be doing. I know 8 years is a long time, but the fact that it mentioned it on this page, was coincidental. And they are both dealing with witchcraft. So if we do perform "The Crucible," just think of it as Dark of the Moon and we can all have a good time.

A note about Mrs. Reed: I know she'll try to be all official at the very beginning of the rehearsals--making us sign contracts, forcing us to bring homework, prohibiting cell phones..--but I am confident that the cast will unite and break her!!! I'm not usually the "down with authority" type, but this is an extreme case. She threatens the sanctity of OAP, especially if Brittany Young makes it in the cast or crew. Here is another link to a Dark of the Moon site.
