Bush still doesn't like gay people
President Bush will renew a quest in his second term for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. Bush's call for a constitutional ban on gay marriages failed last year in Congress, but his position motivated Christian conservatives concerned about morals to turn out in large numbers and help supply Bush with a winning margin in last week's election. Bush said last month that he disagreed with a Republican Party platform provision that would also ban civil unions of same-sex couples, and he said states should be able to allow such legal arrangements if they wish. I don’t claim to be a liberal, but I really don’t have a personal problem with gay marriage. A man and a woman living together can be declared legally wed by common law, but two men or two women cannot get married?

Gay people are essential to the economy of America. They also have overwhelming influence on the thinking of heterosexual America. If you like having a choice of the type of underwear you wear, thank a gay person.
Fuck you, scubasteve. It's a great big world out there, and believe me, it does not revolve around you or Celina, Texas, so just put down the Old Testament and open your eyes. 5-10% of the population is gay. That's 5-10 people in your class. That's 2-4 in band (though we band kids tend to be more sexually ambiguous as a rule). While I can not speak for all of the gays in the world, I can speak for myself to clear up some of the phobia. I did not try to have sex with my straight roommate (even though he asked one night--really really drunk). I don't know how to dress. I don't like shopping (unless it's for food). I don't put "product" in my hair. I don't really like techno music. I don't have AIDS. And don't flatter yourself because neither I nor any of "my kind" would ever hit on you. We aren't trying to get every man in the world to marry another man. In fact, we don't even recruit. We aren't going to change. Actually, we can't change. And believe it or not, we actually don't like being hated for being ourselves.
It's bigots like you that made me hate senior year.
Thank you, Chris.
